Lichen Seminar
Lichen Biology, Ecology and Identification. At Forêt Montmorency, August 5-7, 2024.

21 February 2024

This training seminar is suitable for enthusiasts, students and professionals interested in lichens. Participants will lean up-to-date information on these organisms and become more familiar with vocabulary and identification techniques, including microscopy and chemical testing. The focus will be on field collecting and the use of identification keys. Participants are invited to bring their own specimens if they wish, but the surrouning white birch-fir tree forest has a beautiful lichen richness that we will have the opportunity to observe. Binoculars and microscopes will be available on site. Short lectures will address several topics including diversity, symbiosis, reproduction, uses and conservation. The training will conclude with a visit to the Louis-Marie Herbarium (Université Laval) where an introduction to thin layer chromatography for lichen identification will be held.
